Fashion Design & Merchandising

Fashion Design and Merchandising is a Diploma program for people who are passionate about fashion design and merchandising; for people who want to learn to design, create, and market clothing refl ecting their own unique style. It will prepare individuals to take on entry-level roles as designers, manufacturers, marketers, and retailers and allow people already in the industry to cross-train and expand their skill sets to become more versatile and successful. Participants are taken from having no knowledge of the industry to being able to pursue a multitude of careers based on individual skills and 'fit' as well as industry demand. The eight terms of courses provide students with an understanding of target markets, product life cycles, time commitments, seasonal schedules, people skills, industry tools, terms, trends, and competition. The program equips learners to fi ll roles in different types of companies, from sole proprietorships to local, national, or international corporations. Students completing the 24 month program will specialize and gain the skills to carry a product through the various stages of idea, design, production, marketing, sales, retail, and delivery to the target customer. This unique program provides graduates with the 'big picture', including business, fi nancial, and retail knowledge and ensures they are ready to excel in meeting the challenges of the modern global fashion and apparel industry.
