Lil Thomas - Audio Engineering Department Head

Lil has 20 years experience in the post-production and music industry and is co-owner and primary designer/operations manager for The Sonic Temple Recording Studio. Lil served as sound designer/editor for Salter Street Films Ltd. for 7 years and worked on Trudeau, The Miniseries; Trailer Park Boys; This Hour Has 22 Minutes; Made in Canada and countless other programs.

While living in Toronto Lil gained 3 years of experience at The Audio Truck, a mobile live recording studio, while he worked full-time as an Audio Technician at Westbury Show Systems. Upon his move back to the East Coast in 1998 he started to lay down the foundation for a recording studio in Downtown Halifax along with his brother Louis Thomas & David Hillier. The Sonic Temple is an award winning studio that has been open since 2002 and has enjoyed great success with artists such as Matt Mays, Joel Plaskett, Nathan Wiley, K-OS, Brian Adams, Hey Rosetta, The Contact, and countless other local and national artists.

Lil graduated with Honours in Audio Engineering and Production Techniques from Trebas Institute. He now enjoys lending his knowledge and experience to teaching while still getting an opportunity to engineer and produce projects occasionally at The Sonic Temple.

Jerry MacAlpine Department Head - Graphic and Digital Media Design and Event and Talent Management

Jerry MacAlpine Department Head - Graphic and Digital Media Design and Event and Talent Management Jerry MacAlpine has been a Department Head at the Centre for Arts and Technology for over three years. His extensive design, teaching, management and marketing background includes working as a Creative Director, Digital Graphic Design Instructor, private college Principal, General and Marketing Manager and 16 years as an Air Force officer. Jerry also has an entrepreneurial side, having owned web design and software development companies in both Ontario and Nova Scotia, and continues to freelance his design services.

Daniel Gaynor Core Instructor- Digital Filmmaking

Daniel Gaynor Department Head - Digital Filmmaking

Daniel brings over 10 years experience in the fi lm and television industry to the Centre for Arts and Technology. He draws on his experiences with EastLink Television, where he worked as a Creative Specialist, Producer, Director, Shooter, Graphic Designer, and most predominantly, an Editor.

Choosing editing as a specialty was a way for Daniel to focus his interest on one aspect of the industry. This skill-set, combined with his knowledge of Final Cut Pro gained him the opportunity to be invited to work as an editor on Trailer Park Boys: The Series, where he further refi ned his skills. Teaching has always been very fulfi lling for Daniel, who also continues to work in the industry, as a director and editor.

Breandan McGrath, Department Head - 3D Animation

Breandan McGrath Core Instructor - 3D Animation

Breandan has been creating visual effects in the entertainment industry for over 20 years. Along with instructing at the Centre for Arts and Technology, he is also co-owner of Wingit Productions Inc., a company specializing in visual effects. He has credits as a Producer, Production Manager, Digital Compositor and 3D Animator. As a freelance artist he has worked for Walt Disney Animation Canada, IMAX, Sony, Warner Brothers and even the FBI.

Tony Murphy, Instructor - Audio Engineering

Tony Murphy – Audio Engineering InstructorTony is a qualifi ed music teacher with a degree in Music from Dalhousie
University. He is a specialist in audio engineering, recording techniques and
performance practice with digital media. He owns his own multimedia fi rm
and works as a piano/organ/harpsichord tuner and technician.

Tony brings over 20 years experience to the Centre for Arts and Technology. His diverse background also includes musical instrument design, repair and building of keyboard instruments, and Internet/Web development.

Susan Pfeiffer -
Academic Coordinator/Instructor - Classical Animation

Susan Pfeiffer Academic Coordinator/Instructor - Classical AnimationSuie's expertise lies in 2D Animation, Special Effects (FX) Animation, and Life Drawing. Her educational background includes a certificate in Costume Studies from Dalhousie University and an Animation Diploma from Sheridan College of Applied Arts & Technologies. Her teaching background involves instructing first year Classical Animation and Animation Design at the New Brunswick Community College (Miramichi campus), one year teaching the 2D component of the 2D/3D Animation Program at Mackenzie College, and teaching Classical Animation part time at the Nova Scotia Community College in Truro.

Professionally, Suie has worked on the Feature Film SpaceJam, creating FX Animation. She has also received the Great White Costumer's Guild Award for Innovate use of Materials, Theme and Design.

Kevin A. Fraser, Instructor - Digital Filmmaking/Digital Photography

Kevin A. Fraser

Since graduating Film school, with honors, Kevin has worked on television shows for networks such as CBC, Life Network, Mystery, Space and most recently on Showcase series, The Trailer Park Boys. While working on these shows, many commercials and music videos, he has also produced award winning and internationally screened short fi lms. Kevin is the owner of Antisquare Pictures, a fi lm production company dedicated to effi ciently creating high-end entertainment.

Along with fi lmmaking, Kevin is also a commercial photographer. He works as a free-lance photographer specializing in advertising, fi lm production stills and creative portraiture.
