The Centre for Arts and Technology is an accredited, higher education institution providing specialized technical training and sought after skills in a rapidly expanding and evolving entertainment arts and media production industry. Our Kelowna Campus is home to some of the industry’s best instructors and to close to 400 students. We are part of The Education Company (TEC), which runs specialized campuses across Canada.
We are currently looking for an exceptional education manager with a passion for providing an outstanding educational experience for this full time position as our Director of Faculty.
Objective/Purpose of the Position:
The purpose of this position is to ensure that the school delivers consistent quality education in its programs and ensures that the overall student experience is positive in keeping with our vision, mission and values. The objective is to manage and improve the quality of instruction, keep the program current and relevant to industry, and ensure the best possible career outcomes for grads.
Key Responsibilities of the Position:
Quality of Education
- Keep abreast of the school’s overall goals/strategic direction and coordinate the department accordingly.
- Ensure seamless delivery of courses, that educational standards are consistently applied and overall quality of instruction is maintained in every classroom for all programs. This includes content (curriculum), delivery (instructor performance) and administration. This will be measured by student satisfaction, instructor evaluations, regulatory compliance and adherence to Centre policies.
- Manage Student Services department including career services and industry relations.
- Work with Director of Education to develop and facilitate program advisory committees (PAC) for all programs to ensure industry relevance of course content.
- Ensure that all program changes are undertaken in cooperation with the Director of Education and approved by the appropriate authority before being submitted to the required regulatory organizations.
- Identify, hire and manage qualified instructors. Negotiate instructor compensation and educational costs. Approve staff allocation sheet, negotiate Schedule A’s, develop instructional costs for quarterly spreadsheet; develop payroll summary and manage revisions.
- Working with Director of Education, orient and train all new instructional staff. Ensure that instructor’s are provided with instructor resource materials via department heads.
- Manage grades, attendance, student conduct and academic probation. Facilitate student concerns and disputes with regard to educational delivery within the program. Monitor student withdrawals, seek rationales and look for any emerging patterns/trends.
- Work with the Director of Education and the instructors to recommend new educational offerings and initiatives that are in concert with emerging trends and issues facing the industry sectors, as well as recommendations for curriculum development updates.
- Work with Student Services and PDP instructors to assist in the integration of ERS and PDP principles into Centre programs and into the overall culture.
Instructor Performance/Development
- Work with Director of Education to ensure that instructors meet regulatory compliance for instructor qualifications. Working with Director of Education, identify and develop in-house professional development workshops for staff and instructor development (lunch and learns) as part of their development plan.
- Manage the industry relations initiatives of Department Heads and Student Services to ensure maximum reach, impact and effectiveness.
- Encourage students to seek opportunities with the local business and arts community in order to increase post-graduation networking, industry job skills and employment opportunities.
General
- In partnership with the Director of Education and Campus Director, develop the annual education budget and manage educational expenses accordingly.
- In collaboration with instructors and Student Services, bring in industry guest speakers as appropriate to increase the educational experience of students. Call upon community networks - in business or the arts - to aid in bringing opportunities to the student body.
- Manage the Academic Coordinator in forecasting and class scheduling to maximize efficiency. Coordinate with the Technology department to ensure maximum “up time” of equipment and resources.
- In cooperation with the Executive Director, Centre Director, Dean of Education and Director of Marketing, provide input in developing promotional materials for the Centre.
- Keep abreast of new technologies that may impact the school and recommend new technologies and equipment as appropriate.
- Other duties as required.

The position requires a strong leader, excellent communicator, team player, and negotiator. This individual must be able to deal with a diverse group of people in multiple locations. The position calls for a global thinker that is detail orientated with strong technical and human resource management skills.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Social Sciences and/or Education)
- Master’s Degree / Professional Diploma / Certificate in Adult Education
- Minimum of 5 years prior supervisory experience working in the Education field
- Previous curriculum development and/or teaching experience
- Working knowledge and experience with active teaching methods
- Ability to instruct, direct, and evaluate employees
- Ability to organize, evaluate and present information effectively.
- Ability to coordinate and organize the work of others
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
- Superior computer skills – word, excel, power point, email, Internet, databases
- Understanding of the Private College Industry
- Detail-oriented, systematic, proficient time management skills, empathic listener
- Valid B.C. Driver’s License
- Acceptable Criminal Record Check
